How Much Does a Shed Cost in Australia? Breaking Down the Real Numbers

Nobody wants to play the “request a quote for pricing” game when they’re just trying to figure out if a shed fits their budget. So let’s talk actual numbers.

We’ve been selling shed kits across Australia since 2001. Here’s what quality sheds actually cost and what you’re getting for your money.

In this guide:

The Honest Answer: $8,000 to $60,000+

Our basic single garaports start around $8,690 to $9,980. A solid double garage or residential shed sits in the $15,000 to $20,000 range. Larger American barns and farm sheds run $20,000 to $30,000. Serious commercial or industrial barn setups can push $50,000 to $60,000 or more.

Those numbers are for complete kits delivered to your property – everything you need to build except the foundation and labour. And you’re getting Australian-made BlueScope Steel with full engineering certification and ShedSafe accreditation.

What Actually Affects the Price

Size is the biggest factor. A 4×9 metre shed uses less steel and materials than a 12×24 metre shed. Pretty straightforward.

Your location matters too. We break Australia into Region A, Region B, and Region C based on wind loading requirements. Higher wind zones need stronger engineering. If you’re in North Queensland or the Northern Territory, you’ll typically fall into Region C (cyclone areas), where cyclone-rated sheds are non-negotiable — heavier gauge steel, more fasteners, and stricter engineering. The price reflects what your shed needs to survive.

Features add up fast. Every roller door, window, glass sliding door, mezzanine floor, or skylight increases the cost. Our 9x20x5.4 metre workshop with three chain-operated roller doors, six windows, a PA door, and mezzanine floor runs $52,300 to $59,980. A similar-sized basic farm shed costs significantly less because it doesn’t have all the extras.

Site conditions can change things too. Most pricing assumes Terrain Category 2.5 and Topography 1. If your property’s more exposed or on a slope, the engineering requirements change.

What You’re Actually Getting

When we quote a price, you get a complete shed kit with all steel framing, wall and roof sheets, gutters, downpipes, colour-matched fasteners, engineer-designed plans, and instruction manuals. Plus unlimited phone support if you’re doing the build yourself.

You organize the foundation and either DIY installation or hire a builder. Council approval costs vary by area, but our engineered plans are what council needs.

With 17 manufacturing plants nationwide, your shed’s made relatively close to you. Faster delivery, better freight costs, and supporting Australian manufacturing.

Why Cheap Sheds Cost More Long-Term

You can find cheaper sheds. Imported kits, thinner steel, no proper engineering, no ShedSafe accreditation.

The problem shows up two to three years later. Rust on the roof. Twisted frames. Doors that won’t close. Council asking about permits. The money you “saved” looks expensive when you’re replacing the whole thing.

We use Australian BlueScope Steel because it’s engineered for our conditions. We provide full engineering certification because it’s required and because it’s the difference between compliant and non-compliant. We maintain ShedSafe accreditation because it protects you.

Costs more upfront. Lasts 30 years instead of needing replacement in five.
